Over run

Postby RichardSEL » Mon Jan 29, 2018 7:55 am

When I had the Passat (2L tFSI direct injection) got into the habit, as did others, of letting the car drift down long hills in over run with the gearbox in suitable 2nd or 3rd gear. This had the effect of assisting getting any remaining grot and vapour out of the inlet manifold thru and out the ports. This engine has its crankcase breather hose fed back into the inlet manifold to meet emmissions regs

Tried doing that over run on a couple of occasions via the XJ8's "J" gate and that produces a "GEARBOX ERROR" orange warning. It's not a stored fault as an ignition cycle and the warning goes out.

Car's had an ATF and filter change 7,000 miles ago.
Is this a "feature" of the AJ-V8's gearbox?
Anyone else?
