knocking on engine

hi i have a 1998 jaguar v8 that has a knocking or rather a tapping sound on the engine when cold as it warms up and you rev it the sound quietens untill it completely disappears .iv'e changed the chains and tensioners changed the variable cam timing but to no avail .when the engine is warm there is no noise at all and it runs smooth as it should. my next step is to check oil pressure ( but the light does go out straight away when started and stays out when hot ) and may be replace oil pump .any ideas ??? robbie220

Robbie its an area which causes concern but the major issues we normally advise on seem to have been done in your post.
If you put your recent items of work that you have had done that relate to the engine then put down your worries, we do have an expert based in Nottingham who would make a better assumption of your problem its one of those issues where the wrong advice could make the situation worse.
Better still if you live anywhere near the Nottingham area book an appointment at David Marks garages and go let him take a look ....Joe
