X308 Info DVD Updated

Postby daveji » Tue Jan 13, 2015 10:46 pm

Jaguar Heritage Classic Parts have updated the X308 DVD.......now called
"Original Technical Publications-Jaguar XJ8 & XJR (X308) 1998 to 2002"
(Heritage part No JTP1012)
Cost is £50......not cheap....but there is masses of info in there.....
Technical Information.......Parts list....Service Info (Workshop Manual) .....Electrical and Electronic Guides....Handbooks etc .....and loads of other stuff of more general interest.
Its taking me a while to sort out what is on the DVD !

As Dave says, the new DVD ranges are very comprehensive in terms of material. Although it has the Parts manual, I'm pretty sure that, unlike the older models, the x308 DVD doesn't include the full workshop manual, because Jaguar had moved to screen and menu--based systems by this point. Dave, please correct me if I'm wrong here.

Notwithstanding that, it will still be great source of information and contains much more than the original DVD which was quite light on info compared to the Parts & Service Manuals that we've become used to for the 1980s Jaguar models.

Paul
Never having seen an X308 Workshop Manual I could not say whether the DVD has
the full version.
What it does have is a section called "Service Manual Jaguar XJ8-XJR 1998-2002"
.........comprising 2490 PDF pages.
The header page in the "contents" section says
JAGUAR ...... WORKSHOP MANUAL......XJ Series 1998 MY On
Looks good to me !

Tks Dave. I think it will be extremely useful to hear your summary when you've looked through the contents. If it dors contain a full Service & Repair Manual, that will be a real benefit to owners, plugging the gap where it's not been possible previously to buy a full UK Service Manual from Jaguar for the x308.

Here's hoping it's that good!

Paul.

Delete if out of context.

I previously placed this link recently. Possibly in the Club General section. Some members may not have seen it.

This manual is a Jaguar Training paper with a massive amount of detail for both the V6 (X and S-types) and for Jaguar V8 models. Effectively it is a very detailed look at specs for the XK8, X308, X350 and V8 S-types both with and without supercharging. It makes for very informed reading if the above discs don`t give quite what you might be looking for.

Joe,

Remember that x308 parts system is online at Jaguar Heritage Parts website:

Paul,

following this thread and in particular regard to parts listing for X308, SNG Barrett produce catalogues downloadable for most modern Jaguar models. The X300 is listed and a useful catalogue exists for the model but a catalogue for the 308 does not seem to be available from them.

I just wondered why that might be. Is it that the majority of body and running gear is similar if not the same for 308? Engines ie V8 and parts of the suspension are of course completely different. Just as well then then JH have the 308 covered. Just an observation born out of late might idle curiosity.

All
Whereas the information on Jaguars pre X308 is available, there have only been "bits and bobs" of information about the X308 around from various places. since the model was introduced.
The only way to get definitive information reliably was to go to a professional with access
to Jaguars databases.
This was,to me, a bit of a nuisance. I have got used, over the years, to sorting out my car requirements for myself.....doing my own homework, and I prefer it that way.
I seems to me that, thanks to JDHT, at last there is a single, comprehensive scource of all the information an enthusiast might need about his X308, available for purchase,so that we can access it at home when we need it.
Thanks JDHT and well done !
Now I need the same thing for my XK8.......
I bought the new version DVD for the XK8 but it does not cover the 4.2ltr cars.....
so I returned it. Looks like they slipped up with that one.

This might help engine wise for the XJ8. A Jaguar Training Course paper which somehow made it onto the internet. Seemingly produced around the time of the 4.2, that updated engine gets a few mentions. Very good reading I think you will find. Loads on clearances and correct procedures.
