If others are anything like me,the Jag has not been used much in the recent winter weather.
We don't take our pride and joy out on that horrible white stuff and especially on salty roads do we ? .
The sun is getting a little warmth in it now and better weather will hopefuly be just around the corner so perhaps a reminder of a couple of basic "matters of care" is timely...indeed these issues have surfaced on the Forum recently.
Firstly.......remember not to "short shift" your Jag at any time of year. If you start it up do not turn it off before the engine has properly warmed up. If the engine floods it can be a real performance to get it going again.
Secondly....a combination of lack of use and lengthy cold weather is very likely to mean a run down battery...even if it is basically healthy.
Low battery voltage......even if the car starts OK, can result in all sorts of gremlins in the electronics with wierd error messages and warnings which appear from nowhere and the disappear again.
The ABS/Traction Control, Body Control and Security system computers seem particularly sensitive to low battery volts.
Not every one can use a permanently connected battery conditioner, particularly when the car is not garaged, so if your car has been stood for weeks its a good idea to take the battery off the car and give it a good boost charge ......on the bench, before using the car.
The handbook details the battery disconnect/reconnect procedure which best protects the electronics.
Roll on spring !!
