My insurance is coming up for renewal and I was being quoted £661 fully comp. with business from Zenith via brokers Towergate, Hall & Clark. Tried the WWW & got quotes down to £386 from the AA.
Went back to broker and as car is now 5 years old can go on their Jag scheme with NIG and ended up paying £338 fully comp. but without business as no longer needed. :D
PS Footman James were quoting £425.
If anyone is interested Towergates phone number is 0870 990 6060

Paul i had a look at Footman James after my debacle last year and found they had been taken over by another company.
I was told another company to try....by Tony Ridge, one called Adrian Flux and they seemed ok so i went with them.
My last years episode with Kinetic insurance caused me to ask a few more questions this year
There all ok until you have to claim Kinetic were great until it came to the assessor going to see the car.........he didnt...he estimated it and then said "its a write off" for 9 grand...with 22,00 miles on the clock....i went ape*** they used a company called Motorcare to do it....so beware all, that was through the AA too..........Joe

After a break from Jaguar motoring, I obtained a very good quotation this year from the RAC, for my 2000 X reg Sovereign V8 4.0. Check out the RAC on-line system. Got a bigger discount as I count as an RAC member under Mrs C's membership. £340 for comprehensive cover, parked on my drive in the Medway Towns - can't be bad!

Good luck friends,

Why not try Adrian Flux brokers, as newly advertised in the JEC magazine? I had already been with them for a few years before the JEC link-up, but this year got an improved renewal of £295 by quoting my JEC mebership number.

I've just renewed my insurance for 1998 3.2 with Churchill. Fully comp £226.80 including legal cover and protected no claims. This is after 1 claim for £1800 paint respray at xmas when some kind person (unknown) threw brake fluid across the bonnet. Had to pay the £425 excess. The service I received was excellent.

XJR insurance

Hi Guys,

I agree, the insurance market is wild out there. I settled with a quote from Norwich Union. Comprehensive with named driver £336 and all the right buttons clicked. Legals, courtesy car like for like, windscreen etc, etc.
£250 excess and NO excess on glass or in car entertainment. Five years no claims did help though.

Always worth phoning around.

I've got my XJS with Adrian Flux this year - full NCB, £17000 agreed value - £220 premium.

I phoned them when I got the Sovereign this week. Despite the fact that my NCB was being used on the XJS, they gave me 70% discount on a new policy, guaranteed value if I want it, fully comp - £239!

Unless you've got a bad driving record, I reckon you can always get it down to under £250 with a reputable company. Even my Group 20 superbike is only costing me £220 pa

This year I've switched to Adrian Flux @ £307 fully comp. as they would give me protected NCB and the old company wouldn't.

As most of you know i had a big accident in 2006...My Insurance was with Kinetic via the AA.......the trouble we have had is horrendous.......i am now with Adrian Flux for the second year.
Its the deal you get after an accident that counts, I had the usual hire car (even though i wasnt bothered about one) i did have an agency looking after my every need called Angels, and luckily the AA provide a solicitor free of charge. Here is a post i did for the main mag.....a bit long but be warned as its still ongoing after two years ................
Car insurance…..a warning, This report was submitted in 2006
After changing my car in 2006 from my well worn XJ40 Sovereign for a Daimler super 8 it did of course change the basic valuation for my then insurance company.
I changed the insurance company via the AA, they allocate several options and you have a choice.
I opted not for the cheapest but the more expensive option.
The company is one allocated to me via the AA it goes under the name of Kinetic insurance which is part of Zenith insurance.
Then they have another company called Angels which is supposed to see to your immediate needs. (no problems there) then they supply a top car for your use via Help hire ( no probs there either) then AA supply a solicitor for your personal injury claims (that appears to be ok too)...the problem is another agency called (Motor Care) they assess the vehicle for Kinetic.........that’s where all my hopes almost went out of the window.
We all know what it feels like to have our cars, abused, stolen, or any other mishap that comes along ....but in this case I and my wife were without doubt lucky to be alive.
I was in no way to blame for the accident (the other vehicles rear wheel came off and threw him into the air where he chose to land on my car). My wife and I are not yet over this accident, she has not even got back to work yet.
Then it came where I elected to have the car repaired at a repairer/ restorer in Worksop called Alan Proctor garages, he is a well know Jaguar restorer / repairer (he has even worked on the Queen Mothers cars when she was alive) and appears in the JEC magazine quite regularly. We submitted estimates within 7 days of Alan receiving the car in Worksop from the secure compound in Black pool where the accident happened
The Motorcare company assessor hadn’t even seen the car until queries were made by me and Alan as to what was going on they had relied on estimates sent by Alan Proctor in December.
Alan was asked to supply another estimate as their valuation of my car was not enough to warrant repairing....My car is a 1999 Daimler super 8 which I bought last August for £15,000,an ex jaguar directors car with only 24000 miles on the clock in pristine condition...the estimate was for a total of £9,000 pounds.
They wanted to write off the car at those figures, to us that is a real bombshell, as most of us have put a lot of work into our vehicles to make them top class vehicles, I objected and said I wanted the car repairing....so more discussions went on for a while and the assessor sort of changed his mind when I explained the mileage and condition of the car....it then took until this week in mid January to give the touch and go decisions the go ahead on the lower estimate for repairs.
They valued the car at £10,000??....I purchased the car for £15000 last Aug that was the amount of valuation I put on the insurance forms ...and were going to write it off...then no doubt sell it on. So gents be warned you could lose your pride and joy in a flash, if you go down the multi option without checking the less obvious details. Are these so called insurance company’s really what we have always dealt with, or are they a new breed of computer linked offices who don’t know a Rolls Royce from a Skoda

Joe,

Having heard your story before, I think it's salutory lesson for many Jaguar owners whereby the so-called market value of 10-year old cars can be somewhat open to interpretation. The current used car market climate also makes the situation rather more uncertain with the prices for many large cars still in freefall.

For me, the only answer is to get an agreed value, where possible, assigned to the vehicle. I've yet to test it with a real claim but the Adrian Flux scheme doe seem rather better than many who seem to merely price the premium based on the agreed value figure. AF seem to price the risk on the car, Group and individual record & location, rather than on the value figure itself.

I would add one slight word of caution cognisant of your comment about your experience with Kinetic. Kinetic is one of the companies with whom Adrian Flux place their business. Indeed my own XJ8 policy has been placed by AF with Kinetic! I do hope your experience was an isolated incident!

kinetic

Postby joejag308 » Tue Dec 09, 2008 8:39 pm

When i had the accident i was with Kinetic on a fully comprehensive policy not a cheap one either, the other third party company was Tesco insurance..........after the initial valuation in 2006 on estimates submitted the accident damage they assessed at £9000 this was above their valuation.....a 1999 Daimler Super V 8 in "as new" condition, with a mileage of only 24000 miles .......it was never seen by the assessor just a value unseen placed on it via Motor Care an agency working for an insurance comany..........the car in the end was repaired on a lesser valuation with myself having to pay extra to put the car back to the condition it started the journey in...........on renewal the new insurance with Kinetic was £1870.00.........so AF was the reccomended company to go with. The case is ongoing, my wife still is recieving treatment they paid out on a "non predjuditial basis" (the third party insurance that is) for the car as long as i paid the balance or the alternative was a write off.
The solicitor was provided by the AA as part of the deal.

I agree with Paul that the only way to be sure you'll get the true value of your car in the event of serious damage is to take out an agreed value policy. Mine is via Footman James - though they are, of course, only brokers and the insurance cover is with a variety of companies. The policy is based on a written valuation by the JEC which, in turn, is based on a comprehensive description and history of the car, supported by photographs.

Touch wood I have not had to claim on either my present X308 or previous X300, but some years ago I had a Beetle insured through Footman James and repairs following an altercation with a bus were met with no fuss - though the cost was way above the "market value" but within the "agreed value".

i cannot for the life of me remember the name...but it was in classic car mag, its an insurance company in burscough/ ormskirk..had an 01704 number.
i insured my 1988 750il bmw with them,
they wanted photos which helped with the valuation.
i paid 2grand for it , they valued it at 3grand.....i wrote it off and got a cheque for 3 grand minus the excess of 150 quid

valuations

Postby joejag308 » Sun Dec 28, 2008 11:09 am

JEC via Graham Searle do give you valuations if you are at any JEC events.......the cost is minimal and the valuation is on record.
the alternative to being at shows you would have to contact Graham at JEC headquarters in Bristol then ask him the details for a valuation.
It could mean the difference of being written off or keeping your car...Joe

You're right Joe. JEC has special valuation forms - phone to ask, complete, return to Graham with photos and a cheque for a tenner and signed valuation comes back by return post.

You then send the valuation and photos to the insurance broker/company and even get those returned to you.

As said in previous post, I went with Footman James as I had previous good experience with them, but next year I may seek quotes from Adrian Flux and Peter D James, both of whom advertise in the JEC magazine - just for comparison.
