Crankshaft position sensor

I just replaced the CKPS on my 3.2 V8 x308 today, this was a nightmare! lying under the car which was raised on stands, it started off well, I managed to remove the retaining bolt and then the sensor came away quite easy but unfortunately this joy was short lived when I realised it had broken off leaving the main part stuck in the torque converter housing due to the galvanic corrosion around it. I then poked and pulled at it until there was nothing left sticking out, feeling defeated I noticed a rubber cover adjacent which I removed which gave me access to the inside, 3 hours later it was out....few! reassembly was relatively easy apart from replacing the rubber cover, it was so cold the rubber was a pig to fit back in, anyway I managed in the end and the engine is running smooth again. I did make mistake though... I had pushed the rubber cover too far in so when I started the engine this made a terrible noise as the flywheel or torque converter was hitting it which gave me a scare but this was soon rectified. Thanks to Auto reserve for another quality part.

Congratulations on working successfully in the cold! I'm struggling to persuade myself to make the effort until the weather eases. :D Mike.

Hi Paul, I have a similar problem - CPS has snapped off while trying to pull it out and as you'll know the access to get at it is very tricky. May I ask how you managed to clear the remains? I can see the opening on the other side of the flywheel cover but not how you'd get at the sensor from that side.

Thanks for any assistance.
Eric

Hi Eric, once I gained access from behind I used a piece of 6mm round steel bar that I bent at a right angle at one end and just wrestled with it for hours and eventually managed to push and pry it out, once out I used some sand paper about 80 grit to clean the corrosion from the hole to allow the new one to slide in without causing any damage.

Hope this helps
