Deceased estate - 1998 XJ8, advice please

Hello All,
Hope you can help/offer advice.
A late relative's estate contains a 1998 XJ8 X308. It's currently on SORN, but all there and running. The dash is showing "gearbox fault". We have no specific details on the recent history of the car and when/why the fault appeared. Until recently it has been used on the road, it's a tidy car.
Can you please offer any opinion on...
1. is this fault likely to make the car a "spares" only vehicle?
2. a suitable place to advertise this car? In your Classifieds section perhaps?
3. an idea of price? I appreciate that is difficult but a broad range would help us a little bit.
