Gearbox not changing up or down !! Smart Charger

Just a note for my fellow XJ owners, I had a weird experience a while ago! driving out about 5 miles and the car wouldn't change up, turned it off and restarted the engine, drove away ok then it happened again, then all sorts of strange things were happening, Thinking it low on box oil took it to my garage to check!.
The mechanic (gold star) noticed a few anomalies with the dash lights I hadn't seen before, and went straight to the battery, put a meter on it and found the alternator was delivering something close to 20 volts!! and getting very hot!
we replaced it and luckily got away without having to replace any PCB's or the battery.
WARNING; I cant be sure but I think I mistakenly pressed the Lithium button on my NOCO 1 Genius once which may have caused the regulator to fail !!
