Morning I wondered if anyone could assist with this problem.
I have a 2000 W reg XJ8, cars been running fine, battery went flat so jump started it left running gave it a good blast up the road battery charged up all fine. Turned it off now won’t start? I have...
Checked fuel filter looks new changed not so long ago in history.
Put fuel in gauge is working fine I.e. definitely has fuel in.
Cannot hear fuel pump making noise when turn over.
Can hear clicking inside car from rear seat passenger side. Almost sounds like window?
Before I try find someone local to me (Shropshire) that could change fuel pump is there anything I could try first? Fuses, fuel cut off switch, etc?
Any assistance would be really helpful thank you

Re: Fuel pump 2000 Wreg 4.0 XJ8
There's a Schrader valve you can unscrew (using a bicycle tyre valve tool) on the fuel rail. Accessable from engine top. On my 3.2L it was covered by a blue plastic cap.
Unscrew it. You should get a squirt of fuel coming out of it when you try start. If you only get a dribble
then your pump (that's internal to the fuel tank) is faulty
My fuel filter bag had rust in it too so changed that also for new
Clicking of the solenoid part of the fuel pump doesn't guarantee pump action unfortunately
Posted some pix in thread in this forum late last year sometime. Search Schrader

Co-incidentally, Wheeler Dealers has just been on Dave and was the edition with S10NBY in it. There's a sequence of Edd China connecting the engine clean system to the Schrader valve. Just mention this incase you can't find the pix I posted last year. And can get it on some catch up app or site. Edd says fuel pressure is up to 40psi so if the pump's working nd valve open you should see a good spurt when you turn on IGN
Good luck

Thanks for your quick reply. Yes checked fuel rail and nothing so must be pump?!? The only thing that’s making me think is that it only literally stopped after turning off after running for a while after jump starting car? Could jump starting cause any damage to pump electrics??

My pump/filter gave out on a Sunday afternoon at Sainsbury's car park at 4 o'clock with them wanting to lock the car park access gateThanks for your quick reply. Yes, it could be the fuse, but guess you've checked that in the boot fuse box?
Doubt jump starting could cause such a fault I assume IGN was off when you connected jump battery?
Mine went from running and starting whenever I asked it to that non-start condition without a cough-splutter warning in advance. It wouldn't start again when I'd done the 12 miles back home. So mechanic (of the type with a yard about 1" deep in diesel mud and corrugated shacks for workshops, with mangy alsatian tied up with a bit of rope for company -- y'get the picture?) had to truck me there. Precious few of those sorts of mechanics left in southeast London...
