I have found a really good workshop manul on CD-ROM from a company in the USA. It is a full copy of the Jaguar Technical Information Service (JTIS) workshop procedures and covers all models of XJ8 (it also includes other models such as the X300, S Type and X-Type).
The CD search facilities are excellent and the diagrams are good quality images - unlike an earlier JTIS download I bought online - plus of course if your computer disk crashes you don't lose it like a downloaded version.
To order go to this link: www.greatworkshopmanuals.com and click on the picture of the XJ8 CD-ROM (extreme right hand picture).
It costs $14.99 plus $5.95 international postage, total just under $21 or about £10.50 and arrives in about 5-6days. You pay by PayPal, so it's quite safe to order by credit card online.

Hi Graham,
No, it does not list part numbers unfortunately, but it does list special tool numbers. Like most of the other Jaguar CDs, and other hard copy data I've seen, it has American spelling (harrumph!). For a tenner it's the best around at the moment parhaps until the JDHT release a better version.
By the way, I have often found that my Jaguar main dealer is quite happy to provide prints from their computer illustrated parts lists if you are not quite sure how things are arranged.
Regards,

Graham,
Whilst I would agree that the JDHT CD does not contain service procedures, it does contain a wealth of information about the wiring diagrams and electronics which are not covered by the JTIS CD. If you plan to do your own maintenance I find the JTIS CD useful for the best procedures to use - or conversely which ones to leave well alone and let the main dealer tackle.
I bought the JDHT one at the JEC XJ8 seminar a few years ago and I find it invaluable in sorting the various well-known electrical niggles (like the broken wire in the loom around the boot hinge that stops boot lock releasing. All the wire colours are shown, so it saves guessing.) It also has other useful information such as the design details of the engine, the gearbox, paint code information, etc.

They have information on the X308 which is accessed online on a subscription basis (just under $50 for a 5 year subscription for one vehicle).
Note: The data relates to the models sold in America but most of the information is relevant to the UK models.
I have used them for a number of years for my previous X300 and my current X308.

Manual from USA
Bad news from the company supplying manuals from the U.S.A. Unfortunately, Jaguar threatened them with legal action, and so they are no longer supplying XJ8 or any other Jaguar manuals.

Just to clarify, Jaguar Heritage have responsibility for the sourcing and distribution of parts for Jaguar models at the point at which they are 10 years from the date of last production. Therefore responsibility of XJ8s will not pass to them until 2012.
At the same time, Jaguar have naturally moved over recent years from the production of "hard-copy" parts and service manuals to a pre-dominance of online material. That is why models such as XJ40 & XJS had their documentation on hard-copy which was then transposed to CD and made available to the public at the point at which the models moved to the responsibility of Jaguar Heritage. It is unclear at this time what availability will be made to the public for online service material for XJ8s, when parts responsibility moves to Jaguar Heritage in 2012.
Therefore, we are stuck at this tme with buying copies of material such as JTIS on ebay. It's not the fault of Jaguar Heritage, it's more about policy decision at Jaguar on distribution of company information.
This might not help anyone at a practical level, but I thought it may help inform members.

Service information
Do you mean to say there is no hard copy information or indeed video information for X308s then Paul ?
We do from time to time get people quoting such information from "other" sites and posting them in this forum?
We in here have made a general statement that there is no service sheets or video information for the 308............the spurious info is USA based and not altogether information released by Jaguar for UK models only "other" sites, still publish this stuff.
We cant condone this as being genuine information from Jaguar if that is the case...........Joe

Joe,
Unfortunately it's not quite as black and white as that. There is a variety of material which is in paper form and was (and is) issued to the dealer network. Some of this information is available on the Supplementary Info CD that is available from JH. Service updates etc continue to be distributed to dealers as well.
As you know, the real issue is that Jaguar never produced a paper-based service manual for the car that was available to the public. This was because the production of the formal servicing information was made available to the dealer network via the JTIS and similar systems. It's unclear whether they will release this to the public as part of the transition to JH. i do have an early copy of JTIS which I've used but at present I can't get it to work with my new PC. Might need to get another version. The JTIS is "official" Jaguar but I don't think that Jaguar have ever officially sold it to the public. Like many things, it may just have "leaked" inot the public domain.
I don't know about the US-based material. Again it might be that it's official Jaguar material that has leaked into the public domain.
We're caught between a rock and hard place. The Supplementary Info CD can be legally purchased but is naturally limited in content and doesn't contain a full service manual. The JTIS is "official" Jaguar but I'm not sure of the legal position of it's distribution.
I guess we all must look to our own conscience....

Information
Paul its correct what you say.............Joe
With regard to the JTIS Cd.
The way I understand it,this is a "pirate" copy of Jaguar copyrighted information and is therefore most likely illegal.
It is unapproved, unverified and unsupported by Jaguar and could be considered therefore, to be untrustworthy.
Club officials have stated repeatedly that the ONLY scource of official technical information, workshop and parts, for the V8 cars is from Jaguar's subscription website.
As Paul said.......ones personal conscience should be consulted.

I bought the paper based manual set from the dealer for my X300 XJ12 when I first got that and when I purchased my '98 XJR I asked for a manual for that too. The dealer said that a paper version was not available but offered to sell the JTIS to me. It was around 700GBP so I politely declined!
It was on the official price list so was available if you could afford it.
I picked up a genuine copy off EBAY a few years later.
