Sun Roofs and Auto Gas conversions

Postby Anthonyalpha5 » Tue May 05, 2009 1:15 am

I was wondering if anybody knows how easy it is to remove the metal type electric sunroof, mine has two or three rust spots and I'd like to take it out in order to get it put right and sprayed.

I have also been thinking about having the car converted to LPG and wondered if anybody else has had this done to their XJ8 and could offer any advice or comments, and, could recomend any companies for the job.

Thank you very much

Regards

Tony :)

LPG conversion

Postby joejag308 » Tue May 05, 2009 7:28 am

Tony, there are a few companies that do the conversions, depending on where in the country you live ...at first the V8 engine especially the supercharged vehicles proved a problem area but that seems to have been solved now...............as for the sun roof,it is a task for someone who knows about these things i would imagine, but on the XJ40 i had there was a procedure where the top cover was removable and with some jiggling quite an easy option. Where the rust is? that's another matter if its just on the flat top cover there should be no problem painting it once its off.........if the rust is in the lower areas then you may have problems with the overspray and the proximity of the head cloth ........
i had mine done along with the accident work on my car by Alan Proctor down in Worksop maybe a chat with him would be a benefit, maybe a good quote for the job doing........Joe

Sun roof removal

Postby aproctor » Fri May 08, 2009 8:36 am

Tilt the sunroof up, slide the underside trim towards the rear and remove above the roof.

Undo 3 torx headed screws either side and lift the panel away, I believe the screws are T30.

If the problem is on the edge were the seal fits, well the rust may be so severe that the best option is a new sunroof, either way you will need a new seal as once removed they won't fit again, they are in the region of £60 + vat.

Anyway Joe don't be late on the 18th, I've ordered some brand new whitewash for your car.
