my sickly XJ8 is currently in my local Jaguar dealership for the replacement ECM to be fitted, if successful, they will then put a new MOT on her

fingers crossed

BB,

What happened with the plan for you to reflash the ECM with your ebay kit? I had great expectations of hearing about what you were able to do.

wellllllllll.......

i couldnt do it without buying some expensive bits to interface the car to the lappy

the Jaguar software works a treat, and the OBD2 kit works perfectly , i can read codes, reset the codes , and even see real-time readouts while the engine is running

the trouble is the after-market OBD2 kit and software wont speak to the ( hooky )Jaguar software , so i was stuck

Jaguar installed the replacement ECM today , flashed it , prog'd it and set it up , and she runs perfectly and the emissions are perfect

all for £166 , so not that painful ( plus , £200 for used ECM , x2 MOT's @ £90 , £180 labour for diagnostics )

just got to replace the front ball-joints now, lol

never rains..............

Good news BB. One question - you say you have to replace the ball joints, yet your car passed its MOT?

My car goes in for MOT tomorrow; when I had the valve throttle body replaced (free) by Jaguar main dealer in September, they did a visual inspection and gave me a list of "things to do", one of which read "Slight play in OSF lower ball joint". The Jaguar specialist through whom I am putting the car in for test has advised me to "wait and see" as a degree of play is acceptable.

Does this tie in with your experience?

MOT duly passed - a few "advisories", but no mention of lower ball joints! Just goes to prove how subjective the MOT can be ......... !

after fitting the replacement ECM Jaguar sent it for a test , but it failed on the ball joints

i have now booked it in with my local MOT tester for his ' opinion'

Jaguar do not do their own testing, they take it round the corner to the local VOSA place, i do not know them.......

gave her a nice wash today , scrubbed the wheels and put some tyre black on, also put in a new set of Lambs-Wool mats, looks nice

just need an MOT now, lol

i got the Lambs Wool mats direct from Jaguar , H A Fox in Cheltenham . they were bought through the JDHT for a bargain price of....

wait for it....

£35 , yes, you read correctly , i only paid £35 for a full set of four ' coffee ' coloured lambs Wool mats , the coffee colour is a good match to my oatmeal/antelope interior with its cinnamon carpets
