X308 in JEC Monthly Magazine

Postby hector » Mon Oct 31, 2011 8:49 am

Why is the 308 not featured, all we get is the XJ40 and the X300? :( This month there was a piecec which featured a 308 but not relevant to the model but towing! Please let's have some quality 308 features :D

dont hold ur breath ,

we were lumped into the same magazine section some time back ,

the usual reply is to send in more articles for publication , but from my own experience you dont get much response , and the one i did get featured had the wrong name put to it...
yes there was an amendment in a later mag, but you have to show ur mates both magazines to prove you sent something in,,,,

It does infuriate me that they're rarely much of interest to the X308 owner, and yes, the point about "lumped in to the same magazine section" is well made.

But, there is some truth in the "send in more articles for publication" bit, because they have to come from somewhere.

40, 300 and 308 were "lumped" together a while back now in the magazine as articles from members for publication were thin on the ground, now they are almost non existant, so get some copy in and we will print it, send it to me or Nigel Thorley, then we can ask the question about having dedicated pages once more

BB yes I was aware of the wrong name on your article, mine was in fact atributed to it, not my doing though, once done it is too late, so the choices were leave, it and do nothing or publish the correct info asap, the better option of the two, but I agree not ideal, so apologies again

the 308 forum is still stand alone so feel free to post away and comment

at each major event this year 308 has been represented on the forum display, so the 308 is not being neglected

TUT TUT LADS DONT MAKE WAVES..........

too late......lol

ever heard of ' proof reading'

i'm not blaming anyone, and as i said, more articles are needed to be sent in

on the flip side,

maybe its because our cars have ' bottomed out ' value wise , and enthusiast are in the minority for our cars, and average Joe is buying a Jag and running it till it dies just to say they owned one once..... but are not interested in maintaining it ,

i am currently trying to sell my 1999 XJ8 Sovereign,

but i'm damned if i'm gone sell her for sub £1000 on ebay , but no one else is interested..........

BB

the e-type went through this process as well mind.........

Guys,

The problem as I see it is that over the years, much has previously been written about the 308. The same goes for most of the other Jaguar models. There is only so much that can be written about our cars. Unless members, keep writing articles, the stock at the Editors end begins to dry up. I understand that this was the situation with 308 material recently.

On occasions, Nigel can be awash with copy. At other times, it goes completely flat. But as Nigel will often say,"Most copy gets into the magazine eventually". It might amuse you to know that my "The Problem with Oil" article published last November took eleven months to get to press as we had so much other good material built up in front of it. Currently the situation is completely different to twelve months ago. Hence my recent post on the S-type BB asking for material from members if at all possible.

Over the last two years, I have written furiously for the S-type Forum. I had stacks of material and much of it came from work done to my car. In addition, we were fortunate to have a fair input from members who also had a good input.

The S-type Forum has also recently struggled slightly finding new original copy. I`ve not have much drop off J44 recently, so my own input has been less than previously. Therefore my call has gone out to members to see if they can produce something. Response is patchy. What more can we do than ask?

So I suppose the bottom line is, if you want to see material about your own model of Jaguar in the magazine, please get writing. Co-ordinators are happy to help members produce material, copy and grammar check and generally tidy up first proofs. Some people do have some difficulty writing but please don`t let that put you off telling your story. The Co-ordinators can help you get your copy to press. Send your copy to us and we can help straighten it out if needed.

Mike, I will pen something, having started (like many) with an XJ40, then an XJ8 and then an S type, and now an XF I guess I could cobble something together, should I email it to you?

That would be very good Andy.

Words in 97-2003 .doc format please. Any images are easiest handled and of good quality for the magazine at about 1.5Mb each which equates generally to the 3M setting on a digital camera. These should be kept as separate attachments to the Word document copy although may be included in the same mail to me.

Suggest your Jaguar story throughout the years would make a good starting point. Just mail or call if any queries.

Certainly send to me if you wish. mike.kennedy@jec.org.uk

Ta muchly.

I started this thread as a frustrated 308 owner, there were positive responses, so looking foward to Decembers magazine I am now thinking that the JEC is not in favour of these fine cars!!! This car is my 3rd Jaguar I have owned a Series 3 4.2 Soverign, a X300 4.0 Soverign and now my 308 3.2 Executive, all good cars, the best drive is the 308. My question is why are we being ignored? :?

the reason we were "lumped together " as you put it was, i stood down from cooedding the 308 forum.....the responses for input dried up and i used all my reasons for sending in copy for the mag, it went on only as a reply page from Dave Marks........all the input was personal problems and didn't even go via the forum, members just by by-passed it and went direct to Dave ..then he got flack because of people arguing with him over issues they had sourced via spurious outside Jaguar web sites....as the most action re the 308 was just as a BB unit with no input only for personal problems and code numbers as most people had bought cheap scanners which only gave code numbers...then had the cheek to ask Dave to translate the information......which was not part of his remit......it has not it lost its individuality as a forum item even now or we couldn't be posting like we do........it shows the amount of input when Rob can include it with his other models quite easily.......so if you want it use it.......Joe
