Hi just joined the club, as I have recently treated myself to a X308, just need to get out of big kid mode and stop driving it, so I can get the preventive maintenance done

Yuri,
Welcome to the club and to the x308 section of the Bulletin Board!
Congrats on the purchase of the car but do get your engine and gearbox maintenance done asap!
Good luck

Hello and welcome Yuri,
That looks quite a high spec car in a lovely colour, have you added it and some pics to the XJ8 register yet?
There are lots of knowledgable folk on here and although it's a bit quiet at the moment, just shout out and someone will chime into help with advice and parts sources. As you say, the preventive maintenance is the key plus keeping a tip-top battery at all times to keep error messages away. I had the wings off my Daimler SV8 over the winter for some extra rust prevention and soaked the sills and rear wings while I was at it.
They are still very special cars for Fiesta money but with improved grin factor!
Regards,
Ian

Yuri,
Tks for updating your membership record with the car details and loading the photo.
You've updated your membership as "just" an XJ8. It seems that you have a lot of chrome around the windows so I was wondering if it was an SE or a Sovereign model?

Hi, just updated signature as it is a se model, also been to see a indy to get the engine sorted with tensioners, water pump and thermostat, which they will be doing on the 21st,
The car will be going back to the garage where I bought it from on the 26th, as it will be getting a new head liner fitted as part of the deal I got with it, I'm planning on getting the gearbox service done next month before the motor clocks 50k

Ah, I thought so! I've updated your membership record accordingly.
Do get the gearbox fluid done. It's very important as I'm sure you realise.
Cheers

Thanks Rob, absolutely loving the XJ, it's the first time in years I've owned a car which my heart is in, still can't believe how much attention these motors attract, went to the superbikes at Oulton Park last week, and spent most of the weekend talking to people which were admiring the car.

Hi Yuri,
Welcome to the club and forum. I too have a 2002 3.2 SE and the next job on my list has to be the tensioners.
I have had the gearbox serviced by Bristol transmissions for £185, and am very pleased with the result. I have recently had other work done(fuel pump and oxy sensor) at main dealer prices for over £800. A good job done and good customer service but at a price!
I now need to decide whether to go for the full top and bottom tensioner and guides change or just the top set. My brain says to go the whole hog and my wallet says just do the top. But i know a new engine would cost me a lot more if the inevitable happened. The car has just turned over 92K milage.
I would appreciate an idea as to what you have been advised and ideal of possible costs by your Indy for the tensioner change.
Of course i welcome all advice from you other experts out there too.
Thanks
Rod

Hi Rod,
The indy is charging £450 for the tensioners, water pump and thermostat, as my car is only just coming up to 48k, I decided to just have the top tensioners done for now and then get a full chain kit fitted further down the line, as there are lots of other little bits and pieces I want to get done,
As I knew what I wanted do, I never asked the indy many questions, but as soon as I mentioned the word tensioner, he knew exactly what car I had,

Top and bottom together, every time IMO.
