Hello to you all.
I have a 2001 XJR with Pacific Blue paintwork and Asteroid wheels. I've owned it for approximately one year, in which time it has covered 20000 miles, mostly on the M40 and M42 between my home near Oxford and Birmingham airport, where I'm based as a B737 pilot.
A previous owner commissioned Paramount Performance to make various modifications, including a re-map, cold air induction kit, replacement upper supercharger pully and a very loud stainless steel exhaust system.
Also fitted is a Dayton satnav system, with the display neatly integrated into the dashboard in place of one of the centre air vents, with the main unit located in the boot.
The vehicle was fitted with a Romano HD LPG system by Go LPG, which delivers the equivalent of 35 MPG when compared to petrol. It has an 83 litre tank in the spare wheel well and the filling point is mounted in the centre of the rear bumper. I normally use Countrywide for my LPG, which is typically 5p/litre cheaper than my local forecourts. The system itself runs pretty much seamlessly, apart from a very small loss of power towards the upper end of the rev band, although with intrinsic performance of an XJR, it really isn't noticed, even when pushed. Although purists may quibble, a well engineered LPG system is the answer to ensure these vehicles are economically viable for the higher or even average mileage driver these days. I recently changed the oil after 10000 miles, and it appeared like it had done far less.
The vehicle is in very good condition overall. The paintwork could do with detailing and I want to get the bumpers repainted as a decade of stone chips and parking scuffs have taken their toll.
It's had a recent gearbox oil change and timing change tensioners are of the steel variety.
In the near future, I'm planning to re-bush the front suspension and replace the ball joints as these are getting a bit tired after 100000 miles, and the rear bumper is held in place by cable ties as the mounts have corroded away. This appears to be a common fault, as my previous X308 (a LWB Sovereign), had the same issue. I also aim to apply some underseal before the roads start getting salted, as the existing stuff is flaking off at an increasing rate.
I believe the vehicle is known to the club as a JEC sticker is in the back window!
Best regards, Paddy Hague
