New XJR owner - North Bucks

Hi all,

My name is James from Winslow in North Bucks. I picked up my first Jag a couple of weeks ago, a 2000 X308 XJR, after obsessing over the series model XJs since I was a child. Have had a few niggles, things like -

• Losing coolant (Fixed - hoses needed swapping on expansion tank)

• Keyfobs didn't work (Fixed - needed cleaning up and reprogramming)

• Air box induction pipe from MAF/Air filter to Throttle body has a big hole in it which has been gaffer taped up. Engine runs ok but have ordered a replacement. (Fitting this weekend)

• Rear offside window goes down but doesn't come back up easily (to be sorted)

• CD Changer doesn't read CDs (to be sorted)

• Spots of rust bubbling through by fuel filler cap and on nearside rear wheel arch (to be sorted)

I am really looking forward to doing all the work and keeping my hands busy with the car, doing maintenance and having the feeling of accomplishment on getting my list of stuff done.

The window may be a simple fix, spray some silicone lubricant down the channel it runs in and see if that helps. Good luck and enjoy tinkering!

Really lovely cars, strangely, I have never owned one myself, but have worked on several for customers, including yesterday, a very nice one needing just a little work to restore and preserve it.
Look after it well; it will reward you with extreme driving pleasure, and quite possibly money too, should you ever tire of it and decide to sell.
