New member and 1st Jag!

Postby GT80 » Wed Apr 27, 2016 8:56 pm

Hi all,

So I bought my 1st Jaguar last August, a 1998 3.2L XJ8. Its in good condition and relatively low mileage at 95,000.
I fancied a change and started to look what car I could get for not a lot of money. I was quite staggered really. I love it!
The whole Jag owners scene looks interesting too.

Anyway, I won't bang on about it in the intro thread but I've added it to the vehicle registry and will stick a couple of pics up at some point.

I'll look forward to sifting through the forum and contributing where I can

Cheers!

Hi GT80
nice to see another new member joining the JEC. I started with a XJ8 and now have a X350 which I love. Hope you enjoy your membership of the club.
You don't say where you are, but should you be near Doncaster please feel free to join our local region.

Welcome to the forum GT80!
As you say, quite staggering at what you can get for so little money. I've had Jaguars for 30 years, but always when the big depreciation was over and with a small 'war chest' in case of problems it's an easy ride. Lots of very knowledgeable folk on the forum to guide us in the right direction with advice on what to upgrade, change or inspect.
Happy 308ing (might appear as a new verb in the OED sometime soon)

GT80,

Welcome to x308 ownership and welocme to the x308 Section of the Bulletin Board! Great cars!

I'm sure you've read up on all the absolutely critical aspects that you should do immediately on teh car, unless you know they've already been done - top and bottom tensioners & gearbox fluid etc. If you need any more info on this, use the keyword Search facility on the x308 Section of the Bulletin Board or give our knowledgeable x308 Forum Co-Ordinator Rob Jenner a ring.

Enjoy the car!

Thanks for the welcome!

Should have mentioned I'm located just out of Bury, Lancashire.

As for the technical issues to look at, both chain tensioners and the water pump impeller are on the list to be done soon.
I don't do a lot of miles in it as I have another car for commuting. MOT is due in a few weeks actually!!

There is one issue that bothers me a little. I think it runs a little rich. It doesn't seem to change its fuel/air mix as it warms up and as a result it gets around 16 - 17 mpg which I guess is low even for these cars. I'll bring this up in a tech thread though.

ta!
