New X308 Daimler owner

Hi all,

Having owned an X350 for a brief period a couple of years ago, I thought it would be nice to get back in to a Jag from time to time (I'm afraid my daily drive comes from Stuttgart...). The X350 was nice, but imo the X308 has even nicer lines.

Anyway, having seen an actual X308 Daimler for sale, rather than a Jag, I've now got my hands on a '99 long wheelbase Sovereign. It's done just under 130k miles and needs a bit of tidying up, but seems mechanically sound (a mate who used to do-up Land Rover Defenders for a living, apart from generally being knowledgable about fixing cars came along to check over and advise).

So, I'll be hanging around here looking for sage advice on what sort of issues I may need to look for, and how to get them sorted.

First one is that it only came with one key. So, I need to get a new one cut and, presumably, programmed to mesh with the immobiliser.

Welcome to the forum.
You'll find loads of info on here about your car.
A few important items to check are the engine chain upper tensioners to make sure you have the latest metal ones.
Also the thermostat tower,if its black plastic change it for the upgraded alloy version.
If it hasn't been done already do a gearbox oil and filter change.
Keep an eye on corrosion,they rust from the inside,a known killer of this model.
Just out of curiosity are you sure it's Daimler Sovereign only I don't think they used the Sovereign badge on the Daimler X308.
I suppose someone might of added it themselves but anyway it's still a lovely car

Also change out the coolant temperature sensor and see the MPG increase -- I was doing about 22mpg before, that rose to 26-odd after. There's not much difference between the 4.0L normally aspirated and the 3.2L SWB X308 models as far as MPG's concerned
