Hi there,
Have just joined the Club,I used to be a member back in 1987 when I had a 1974-75 Series II Daimler Sovereign boy do I wish I still had it,I have a 2000 Jaguar XJ8 4.0 Sovereign LWB with 113000 miles on the clock,on the 1st Nov last year I picked it up from Swallows Independent Jaguar Specialist at Rooksbridge great bunch of guy's and certainly know their Jag's and have covered 3000 miles so far, everything works as it should even the electric aerial, very pleased with fuel consumption too about 22 to the gallon so the computer tells me, mostly driving on B roads around here in Devon, is also used everyday to and from work which was a 40 mile round trip but now only 6 as I've moved nearer to work unfortunately, I do most of my own work on the car as I'm a hands on sort of person, has the usual little niggles of rear suspension noise and saggy headlining, not too much corrosion for a vehicle of this age,all stuff to keep me busy but on the whole I think it has been looked after quite well,I think I'm quite lucky because my brother in law owns a M.O.T. centre so I have access to ramps which is quite handy, anyway I am looking forward to reading the posts in the X308 forum and learning more about this beautiful car. Will post my adventures as and when they happen.
Also I have to mention I think the club is excellent value with all the information and back issues of the club magazine in P.D.F.
Thanks everyone :D ,
Enjoy your vehicle's,
Take care,
Andy.

Hello from t'other end of the country and welcome to the Club (again) and the forum. Glad we have another 'hands on' member (make sure you read that correctly) and if you are tackling jobs yourself then we like to hear about it here and an article in the mag is always welcome for these underrated cars.
There have been many posts in the past about the trials and tribulations (and jubilations!) of owning and maintaining 308's so it won't take you long to identify things that ought to be looked at to prevent any problems. Just shout if you need any info, that Rob Jenner chap knows a thing or two.
Regards,
Ian

Welcome from me too.

Tell us about the hydrogen fuel cell. Sounds interesting.

Welcomes!
Was planning on driving down in my own XJ8 4.0L LWB ('01MY 78k with all the toys) What a car :!: Especially coming from nine years in a VW Passat 2.0L tFSI as a daily (first four years commuting) The buyer drove it once, said yes to my asking price, and took it away the same week. Can't blame him, I'm still suffering withdrawal symptoms

Just before my buying the 4.0L had forked out for a 3.2L that I've still got. (long story, my offer on the 4.0L was refused but then accepted a month later). You hear so many horror stories about the rear "A" frame rusting away -- it starts to look like a colander -- I didn't know about this "feature" when I bought so am nervous about forthcoming MOT due next month. But it's super smooth with 121k up (only 2k since last MOT) and no trace of startup tick-tick-tick giving the worry of timing chain tensioner. Still, will have it done and a pair of front shocks and bottom shock joints all round if it's checked out as good for MOT first

Here's the link for replacement head liner board:
http://www.jagheadlinings.com
On the LWB they say it can be got inside the cabin without removal and replacement of the rear window, unlike for SWB models. Not worried too much about my headlining as a length of plastic molding from Wicks bent in hot water in the appropriate places each end and forced into the above-door channels will hold a sagging headlining up. They only had white when I bought, but perhaps your branch or a Homebase, etc. has cream which'd be a better colour match. Meantime, enjoy -- I certainly did
Gone: '59 Mark I, '56 Mark VIIM, '59 Mark IX, '01 XJ8 Sovereign 4L LWB, '01 XJ8 Sport 3.2L, '01 XJ8 Exec 3.2L
Current: '03 Strange Rover L322
Completing re-trim: '73 Owen Sedanca 4.2L
Now being re-built: '61 Mark IX with 4.2L
