A new year things to try

Postby joejag308 » Tue Jan 19, 2010 6:03 pm

A very popular event in the forum these days is the number of guys who lock themselves out of the boot by using the electrical gizmos to unlock the boot........every now and then use the ignition key in the boot lock to stop it seizing up......a squirt of WD40 into the lock itself every now and then keeps it working fine........if you store your Jag for any length of time use a Ctek inline charger ........they are now readily available in the JEC shop or on line at £50 quid apiece its well worth having one connected at this time of year....you can leave it connected for a long period as it trickles the battery until its full then switches off unit it drops low enough to charge some more in it also reconditions the battery........a top piece of kit.

Technical opinion please Joe ............. when charging the battery, whether for short or long periods, is it necessary/unnecessary/essential/advisable to disconnect the terminals.

Techie friends have been aghast when I have NOT done so in the past, but it doesn't seem to have done any harm. What is the advice from those really in the know please?

Mike i use a continuous trickle charge Ctek charger and it has permanently connected extension lugs for the charger .....they are now on offer in the JTC shop for the same price you can get them anywhere online £50.......a top piece of kit..........from flat to charged it takes an overnight charge............and i have never had to take the leads off unless i take it out to clean underneath the battery and check for acid leaks ect..........Joe
