Fading of convertible hood

Hi. I recently purchased a convertible 2014 XK150 and wondered if it is possible to revive or recolour the fabric hood? If so could anyone recommend a product? I have come across ‘Renovo Convertible Roof Reviver’ and they have a dark blue option which is what mine is.

Any suggestions or recommendations welcome!

Over the years, I've used most of the major brands' hood cleaning/revival kits, including the Jaguar branded versions and all seem to work OK with care. Coloured hoods, like your blue version, do seem more difficult to restore to a good standard, so I think it would be sensible to use a kit designed for a coloured hood rather than the more usual black variety. Mike.

I have a blue hood on my XK8, I used the Autoglym kit and I was very pleased with the result, it came up several shades darker and the kit contained everything needed. Both X100 and X150's have mohair hoods so I'd be careful in terms of product selection if you are going to dye the hood. Some cheaper kits use surface pigments rather than penetrating fabric dyes. This can leave a patchy, stiff, or even paint-like finish that can crack or wash out. Proper mohair restoration products should penetrate the fibres rather than coat them.

Renovo does seem to get positive reviews on the web but I have no experience of using it. The big thing with all these products is to ensure your roof is super clean prior to coating.

I've used the Renovo Blue product on my XJS and it worked well. The key things, as others will tell you, is to scrupulously clean it and brush / vacuum beforehand, mask everything carefully (windows, hood rails, bodywork etc) as drips will run, and have a few brushes. You'll need a 4" one to get a nice broad coverage and smaller ones for the more discrete areas. Take your time to even ensure even coverage and avoid patches. You may well find that a few coats are necessary.
