X150 Convertible Wet Seat Belt

I have searched various forums regarding wet seat belts but nothing seems to match the issue I think I have, so apologies if I've missed it! Also, this is my first time use of the Forum which has helped with previous faulty earth point on drivers side headlight so really great resource and also purchased this car through the clubs classified adds!

I have a 2007 X150 XKR Convertible that lives outside all year round. When it rains a lot I have found that the drivers side seat belt is wet which affects the section of the belt that would normally be hidden from view. The passenger side is completely dry.

After some investigation I seemed to have stopped the leak by applying black insulation tape over the joint between the outer rear quarter window waist seal and the rear quarter window. Also, when I use a set of feeler gauges and check the gap between the passenger rear quarter window and its outer seal (which is fine) there is an even 0.5mm gap all the way along. When I do the same on the troublesome drivers side there is 0.1-0.2mm gap at the rear and 1.0mm gap nearest the drivers door so am thinking the water is getting in there.

Looking in the history of the car the driver side window regulator was replaced by Jaguar in 2018. I am wondering whether I need a new outer seal or whether the rear quarter window adjustment was not correctly done or disturbed during the window regulator replacement. I am assuming for now an adjustment of the rear quarter window is needed to push the window closer to the seal nearest the drivers door which would also seem to help the slight wind noise I have. If this is the case I think I can make the lateral adjustment via the rear adjuster on the bracket that holds the motor and the window.

I understand how to remove the rear seat bases (pull out) and rear seat backs (2 Torx screws and lift out) and it seems that the side panel has 4 Torx screws to remove it but some instructions seems to show part of the hood lid needs to be disconnected and am nervous of messing around with the hood!

Has anyone experience of this issue and is there an easy way of doing this adjustment without disconnecting too much? Any advice appreciated before I start taking things apart and causing more problems than needed!!

Reading the workshop manual describing how to change the rear quarter window motor regulator, I can see how you would want to minimize the amount of unnecessary disturbance just to carry out an adjustment! But by reading the installation instructions in reverse, you find that the last operation is to replace the rear quarter trim panel and the step immediately before that is the glass adjustment in various planes, so there's no need to worry about the roof (that should be closed again by this stage) or seat belt retractors etc. Removal of the trim panel should reveal all three relevant adjustment points.

The only obvious error that I noted in the manual was that the regulator motor should be installed loosely (to allow for later adjustment one assumes) but at the end, after carrying out all the adjustments, nowhere does it remind you to tighten them

I am by no means an expert but had exactly the same issue with the seat belt. In my case I was getting condensation in the car so assumed there must be water getting in. I took out the rear seat squabs and discovered the soundproofing under the seat cushion was soaking wet due to water getting in via the hinge on the rear deck and "wicking" up the seat belt. In addition the sealant around one of the boot hinges, drivers side, had shrunk and water was running into the boot and getting into the car.

In addition, the rear quarter panel behine the drivers seat had been removed previously and was not fitted correctly leaving a gap at the rear quarter lighty seal. Someone before my ownership had removed the panel and broken most of the retaining clips so the panel was free to move about.

I corrected both problems and have not had any issues since.

Thank you for your reply and will check other seals just incase, but to date the drivers side seat belt has remained dry as long as I apply tape between the window and the seal!

I've looked into removing the quarter panel to adjust the rear quarter window in the lateral direction and think I know how to do this but the hood needs to be down, so seems like even if I get to the lateral adjuster for the window its a bit of trial and error to get the window correctly aligned for when the hood is up!

I had an alternative suggestion that the outer seal may be damaged and need re-bonding back together which seems like another common issue.

You may find as I did that the rear quarter panel has been removed to deal with a common issue of the hood sliding panel getting stuck or not working due to the damper mechanism becoming detached from beneath the sliding panel. I have a tech bulletin for this issue which shows how to remove and refit the panel if you want it send me an e mail to c.neil59@btinternet.com

Whoever refitted the panel in my car did not fit it correctly which left a gap for water to get in through one of the seals. I refitted the panel correctly and had no more issues. Have alook under the drivers side rear seat as if you get water in it settles under here in the foam - mine was saturated.
