Roof hydraulic system pressure relief valve

Reading some USA reports, bursting roof pipes is a fairly common occurrence almost certain to happen at some stage . As a precaution some fit a pressure relief valve [not a huge or expensive job ] to limit the pressure . Is this a problem in the UK? Anyone done it and if so where was the kit obtained? Thanks .

From my time coordinating the Forum, I can reassure you that this is not an enormous problem. Yes, some do leak and have to be replaced but in more than a decade, I can only recall a handful of instances. Mike.

The Americans have come to a possible conclusion that it was hot weather related - not a problem here at the moment ! For anybody reading this, they did advise NEVER closing the roof with the engine running as this puts full output from the battery into the system, particularly at the end of the action when the latching occurs, and puts excessive pressure on the hoses [basically just keeps pumping with nowhere for the pressure to go].

Be careful what you believe on the internet. Jaguar recommends always having the engine running when moving the roof due to the high current drain from the battery. Knowing well the large number of cars which suffer from battery related issues, in this instance, I would lean towards Jaguar's advice. Mike.
