Boot failed to unlock

Postby tonyriddett635 » Mon Jul 18, 2022 2:56 pm

I recently experienced a 'Boot Open' instrument panel warning but when I checked, it was closed and locked. The boot would not open with the boot pushbutton, the key fob or the dashboard button although it did using the manual lock behind the number plate. As the car thought the boot was open, it was not possible to lock the car. The cause was a wire in the right hand cable harness connecting to the boot lid had failed, probably caused by fatigue of the boot opening and closing over the years. My car is a 2007 X150 so perhaps others may experience a similar fault as their cars age.

Worth noting yes, and a timely reminder to all of us with early XKs to check that the manual release using the key is working!

Good post Tony, thanks for letting people know of a potential problem.
The XJ8 model suffers from a similar boot hinge issue which can cause problems.
Take care and enjoy your car.
