I have a 1997 XK8. I noticed during a journey last week that the green instrument warning lamp indicating that the lights are on had disappeared. On further investigation, I have no tail lamps, front side lamps or dashboard/switch lights other than the three main dials. The headlamps still work (although only when the ignition is on) as do indicators and fog lamps. I have checked the fuses for the side lamps but these look intact.
Thinking about it and reading other posts on here, this would perhaps point to a problem with the switch? I would appreciate anyone else's experience nonetheless.
Side lights and dash lights

Re: Side lights and dash lights
The common points of the failed circuits you mention are the side light contacts of the lighting switch and the Body Control Module, so it would make sense to start at the switch. It might be the switch itself or it could be that the relevant wire, the Red/Yellow one, has broken or pulled out of its connector.
An easy test procedure would be to temporarily tap into that Red/Yellow wire and connect it directly to a good ground point. That would emulate what the sidelight switch does so if the lights all come on, a faulty switch looks likely. As the main beams and indicators work that rules out a bad ground for the side light switch as they all share the same Black/Pink wire.
If no fault is discovered by the above and the lights do not come on with a temporary ground wire, it might be that there's a problem in the BCM, but let's not go there yet!
If you need any wiring details, the full set of diagrams can be found here http://www.jagrepair.com/images/AutoRep ... xk1997.pdf
Pages 9.1 and 10.2 show the front lights and dimmable lighting respectively
