Poor radio reception

I have a 2006 xk8 4.2S convertible, the reception on the radio is very poor. I have cleaned up the aerial connections, but no real difference. Is there an amplifier if so how car I replace it and any idea on where to find one. The radio works fine when using a CD so must be a signal problem.

Do you still get interference when the engine isn't running? If so then that does indicate an issue with the system itself. If you only get it with the engine running then that suggests one of the electrical components isn't very well suppressed and is producing interference.
Do you have the issue on all wave bands?
I'm a cricket fan so listen to Test Match Special on long wave. I have a bizarre situation that it's quite clear when the engine is off but there's a loud whining interference with the engine running that disappears if I turn the lights on. I've yet to track down the reason. My FM reception is good in all circumstances.

It only seems to be poor reception there doesn’t seem to be any electrical interference, the reception is good at times then just disappears. That’s why I thought it might be an amplifier problem

I had the same issues with my 2005 XK8 (X100). Some stations are fine like Radio 1, 2, 3, & 4 but some local stations are really poor. I thought it was the speakers so I went out and replaced the door speakers with Jaguar speakers for £100. Unfortunately, there was no difference. I have to assume it's the radio now but don't really want to replace it as I want to keep the car as original as possible. Does anyone know if any alterations can be made to the radio that will enhance it?

Mine was always poor too, eventually fitted a aftermarket DAB radio, was excellent. There is a thread about this elsewhere, search DAB radio.

PS: yes there is an amplifier, from memory it’s in the boot near the back on the driver’s side.
