KK8 RECARO SEATS

Hi all.

Having seen and sat in an XK8 with the Recaro seat option I had set my heart on finding a pair to fit in my own car, a very low mileage 2003 XKR convertible.

It seems that this option was never available for the DOVE GREY interior colour scheme, only charcoal, ivory and cashmere. Bearing this in mind I had resigned myself to finding a pair in any colour and re trimming them so when a used pair (in cashmere from a 2004 car) were advertised on a well known auction site by a well known breaker I offered a cheeky bid and they were duly delivered . I thought I got them for a good price but am now not so sure!

I started to take the seats apart over the weekend. I knew they needed work…….. The drivers side seat squab is horrendous! One of the additional Recaro specific reinforcements on the seat pan s completely missing and the seat foam itself is all broken and even the moulded in cover retaining wires have all pulled out. Someone has obviously been there before as bits of foam have been cut to shape and loosely inserted into the base cushion. I am hoping the passenger seat is in better condition.

Parts for these seats are virtually unobtainable now. I can get the seat frame repaired but repairing a moulded seat foam is a different matter. I can repair it but I know it will never be right, ( I am by trade an upholsterer, a fussy one at that!).

I don’t suppose anyone knows of any replacement seat foams or Recaro parts that someone is willing to sell? The drivers seat is so bad I would even consider buying another pair of seats if sensibly priced. Any colour would be ok.

If anyone can help or offer any advice I would be most grateful.
