Have them replaced - it is a safety item, not to be messed with :?

Grandtourer is right in saying that when in doubt safety critical items like seat belts should be replaced. However, are you sure that the belt has not become twisted behind the trim? Sometimes rapid release of a belt can result in a twisted section retracting behind the trim causing it to drag and to fail to retract fully. It can be difficult to see without some dismantling and so may require you to remove or partially release the trim to get at the offending area before the twisted section can be fed back through the trim slot.
