X150 Spark Plug Change

Postby ng4xjs » Mon Apr 14, 2025 10:28 am

I do feel a bit silly here. Embarked on a change of spark plug on my NA X150. Right Bank (Drivers Side) absolutely fine. That said and although I've only had this car two years the NGK Plugs were absolutely perfect. Started on the left side with the one nearest the dip stick, only to find the the bolt was spinning (guessing in it's insert). Tried (but gently) getting a flat blade between the bolt flange and top of the coil set but still spins. Will tighten but not release.

Has anybody experienced similar and had a result (without removing the whole cam-cover) any experiences/solutions greatly appreciated.

Kind regards
Nick

My first step-up from your screwdriver(?) blade approach would be to replace the blade with a metal door trim removal tool that's thin enough to get under the bolt head on both sides at once giving with a better distribution of upwards force while rotating the bolt. That's the sort of tool with a U-shaped cutout to fit around underside of a trim clip. It might just help in that situation to try turning the bolt socket with an electric screwdriver, with the bolt head levered up tightly enough to bring the torque limiter into action as a sort of impact driver.

In desperation you might have cut off the bolt head, remove the coil and attack the problem from there. Good luck :)

It will be useful to hear the outcome
