XK Convertable

My 10 year old XK has developed a fault on the computer, all the functions work but the screen switches off after 10 seconds. It will come back on if I turn it on then goes off again. All functions work just no picture. My Jaguar garage says I need a new computer display at £1500. Has anybody any experience of this? and can it be repaired.

With the prospect of such an expensive repair, it would make sense first to ensure that the car has been diagnosed by a garage with the full Jaguar diagnostics kit or the Autologic equivalent.
That said, there have been instances of screens switching themselves off caused by the touchscreen having moved within its frame. The screen effectively receives lots of what it thinks are inputs as the screen moves and touches the frame. Then, the system appears to become overloaded and shuts off in response. It's likely a specialist garage, well versed in XKs, will have come across this issue previously and thus should be able to recognise the symptoms. Mike.

If a new screen is needed, then perhaps contact Eurojag or Auto Reserve for a warranted second-hand unit. Prices will be considerably cheaper. Grab the part number off your defective unit and try to source a replacement with exactly the same part number.
