Hello,
Can someone help me please with the location of the Cylinder head temperature sensor location for my 2006 non supercharged XK. I have looked through my CD workshop manual but I cannot find this item anywhere. I am grateful for the help received from the members so far with this fault, but I am stuck.
Thanks
Rob

Re: Cylinder head temperature location
The engine coolant temperature sensor is located in the thermostat housing. You will need to remove the housing to fit the sensor which is held in position by a clip which you remove upwards. Don't forget to renew the O ring seals on the housing as well as the sensor when completing the task. Mike.

Re: Cylinder head temperature location
Hi Rob,as far as I know the 4.2L V8 does not have a cylinder head temperature sensor.
Some people confuse it with the engine coolant temperature sensor.
It does have an engine oil temperature sensor which is located near the oil filter.
I think the cylinder head temperature sensor first appeared on the 5.0L V8.
Any way good luck and hope that helps a bit.
Take care.
Andy

Re: Cylinder head temperature location
In that case Rob I have no idea what it was I posted to you
I had the starting issue on my 2006 X150, and ordered a "cylinder Head temp sensor' from SNG Barratt after checking VIN etc to make sure it was the right part. In the event the issue improved so I never got round to fitting it. My understanding at the time was that this sends a message to the engine management ECU, hence if it is faulty the car 'thinks' it is a cold start when the engine is warm, hence the starting issue as presumably the fuel mixture is wrong. But I may be talking rubbish, if the part is no use Rob feel free to ditch it!

Hi Rob/Andy,
Just had a look on the SNG website and found this part: Which has Part No XR858700
Described as Sensor-Tempe which is the Engine Oil Temp Sensor .
I wonder if that is the part you have.
Take care.
Enjoy your cars.

Re: Cylinder head temperature location
Hi Andy
Yes it certainly looks similar, from memory it was located below the water pump / thermostat housing, I took photos at the time I was planning to fit it, but I think I must have deleted them.

Re: Cylinder head temperature location
Hi all,
Thanks again for all your posts. Confused or what!!. I will dig into the engine again to see if the sensor is actually fitted to the housing. I might have to wait for the problem to get worse so that a fault code appears. I love my XK, but sometimes she can be a little difficult. Again many thanks,
Rob
