Sorry to maybe disappoint you Andrew, but that's not the base plate - it's got no holes for fixing it to the roof. You need to get back to AutoReserve and ask for the missing plate to be sent - any colour will do!

Well spotted! If they cannot supply then some strong double sided tape might do the job.

Quick update on this.
Autoreserve sent me the missing back plate but I decided to try it first without and just use double sided tape.
I will see if that holds but most important thing is that the phone now works as it should!

There are a number of ways of setting up an Aux In point. Some use a special cassette that has a 3.5 socket wired into it, other schemes use an FM channel transmitter to pass the signal to the radio to play. A Bluetooth Receiver can then be plugged in or the socket used for a hardwire connection.
Some years go I found this method online. http://www.jaguarforum.com/showthread.php?t=57182 The subject is an X type, but it turned out to be almost exactly the same as Alpine fitted X100s, especially wrt the points for soldering in the wiring. I then ran the wiring to the centre storage box where I plug in either my phone or an MP3 player
Note the requirement to use a line-in cassette (V cheap!) with its electronics removed. This is because both cassette reels have to turn for the player to work.

For playing music from my phone using bluetooth I use a bluetooth fm transmitter like this:

Since I purchased mine they come in quite a few different shapes and sizes now but they all do the same job.
Plus you can charge your phone as well.
I leave it plugged in the rear cigar lighter socket and once set up it connects to my phone automatically most times I enter the car.
No issues with quality or interference when playing music IMHO.

I have been using this for about six years now with no problems.
Just follow the instructions to set it up.
I use FM frequency 107.5 on the car radio and have not had any interference.
It is a quick and easy way to play music from your phone.

Thanks for the replies and additional suggestions about music playing.
I have decided (for now at least) to go down the route of the cassette adapter / Bluetooth and see how that works.
John Dee (of TotheGarage youtube fame) seems to have good results so I will have a go, but obviously if I was brave enough the hard- wired hack is the better solution. Congratulations on working out that one!

A quick update.
I used double sided tape to hold the microphone in place, So far so good.
The cassette adapter does make a bit of noise so for quiet music it wouldn't be very good to be honest.
For a bit of 1970's prog rock or 80's synth it works fine! That is a s up to date as my music list goes!
If I had the choice, I would much prefer a proper blue tooth connection to my phone for the music.
