Accident damage - drivers wing mirror and radio aerial

2007 XK 4.2 convertible LHD

Well having my (new to me) car for 2 weeks I was in collision with a flying mattress from another drivers car.
I am just getting his insurance to sort it out but I am concerned they will try to get me to use one of their approved garages.
While I have nothing against a none jaguar garage doing the work, especially as no bodywork is required, I am concerned the parts are genuine jaguar. How can I ensure that I get genuine parts. The parts are the complete drivers door mirror and the radio Aeriel. I can not get any part numbers of the web, unless I am looking in the wrong place. Are these OEM parts?i have taken my car to my local jaguar repair shop and they have quoted me £220 + vat for the Aeriel and £400 + vat , for the complete mirror, paint £52. Labour £140 +vat. The total repair is £971.

Any help in identifying the parts would be appreciated.

I don't think you need be too worried about non OE parts for the mirror. I haven't heard of anyone bothering to make them to compete with Jaguar. Assuming it's the RH (same side as the aerial) mirror, they are the same part numbers for LHD and RHD cars, either for powerfold or non powerfold mirrors. There are different part numbers for the LH mirror for LHD and RHD cars.

The aerial is likely to be part number JLM21920. Jaguar has always used the same aerials as many other car manufacturers. Hence, the aerial may be available from non Jaguar sources at a more sensible price. Mike.

I am glad you noticed my mistake of saying my car is LHD when in fact it is a RHD. I was thinking of driving on the left. The more I own the car, the more I think Jag made a big mistake using an old technology aerial. It's bound to get damaged at some point if you leave the radio on going through a car wash. Although mine being a convertable, that is unlikely to happen.

I do hope you get it sorted easily after only just getting it, I know it "hurts" after someone else has whacked your car.

Like you I have only had my car just short of two weeks and thought exactly the same about the aerial especially after having driven on some appalling roads the aerial would not retract fully due to dirt (cleaned and lubricated now) why didn't they, Jaguar, just drop a small rubber one on it !

As regards carwash, I never, ever, use them or the roadside "handwash" boys either there is nothing like cleaning your own vehicle, checking for damage whilst you are at it, and then the satisfaction of it gleaming there in front of you when you've finished, enjoying a well earned cuppa!!

now where could you build in the quality to a ' small rubber thing '??

and it would never have the chance to go wrong and for a loving owner to try and fix it at huge cost......

Ok, guess you are right re the rubber. . but then these so called "Jaguar" metal telescopic aerials are generic to a lot of cars, the exact same one on my XK8 was also on an Aerodeck Honda I used to have... come to think of it the same one I had on a Legend Coupe !

A "window glass" aerial maybe?
