Which replacement exhaust?

I have recently bought an XKR and, like many others, I want to make it sound like a 'proper' V8!

I have read the previous topic in this forum with interest, two options appeal to me so far:

The option of simply removing the rear silencers appeals because of the low cost but I am concerned that this may be too loud. It would be good to hear from someone who has tried this option?

The Racing Green system looks promising but rather expensive, has anyone tried their 1/2 system?

I have a RGC Half System on my 2000 XKR Convertible. I chose Supersport Sound Level as it is plenty loud enough, especially with roof down. They do appear expensive but are wonderful quality with no obtrusive booming, just a V8 burble when you need it, especially under load. I have spent a fortune on my car, but the exhaust is in the top 3 of things I have done.

Speak to Chas at RGC, or if you are anywhere near the Wirral come and listen to mine.

Steve.

ps, Sorry just noticed you are in Warwick, closer to RGC than the Wirral

I've still not yet bought a replacement exhaust. I'm finding it difficult to justify spending all that money when there is nothing wrong with my current one (except it's too quiet!)

The JEC tools and spares advert for a replacement rear tailpipe with no silencer caught my eye.... has anyone heard one yet?

Have a word with Tony Ridge. He has one on his XK8 coupe. :) Mike.

Any news on what the JEC exhaust sounds like?????
A video clip or sound file would be good, esp as most of the reason for doing this mod is the sound and a bit loath to get them if the sound isn't right

Paul,
Tony Ridge's car will be at the JEC XK8 Seminar on 14 April. I saw Tony today at Jaguar Spares day and he thinks it produces a great burble but is not intrusive in the cabin and no 'sonic boom' :D

I also saw the finished article, as sold on the JEC Parts stand and must say, the quality looks good.

Nice silent movie but where's the lovely noise? :( Perhaps we can hear it at Harewood?

Cracked it in the end! It does sound good. What a shame I'm spending so much money on updating my faithful V12 coupe. I could enjoy being followed everywhere by a noise like that. Still, everything comes to he who waits. :)

I have a MacLeod X-pipe

It doesn't wrap around the rear axle like most (I would guess all of those listed above?) and therefore doesn't have the restriction and the limits to performance enhancement.

Independant Dyno's (admittedly from across the pond) showed that it released 23RWHP and a whopping 39nm of torque!

I've had mine for 15 months and it also enviable increased my economy up to 34MPG on a regular motorway run. I paid for ceramic coating to be safe.

And sounds amazing and due to the weak dollar i suspect you can pick the whole system up for less than £900 inc shipping

If you do a google search you'll find a couple of links with video and sound.

Regards

Mark

I had Paramount fix their exhaust to my XKR - sounds fantastic. I don't know what discount they give to members of clubs, but they advertise one on ebay currently, including fitting plus all brackets for a keen price.

just to pick up this thread again..just fitted the JEC rear pipes today..Ms.Jenkins did a great job of sending them over to N I very cheaply and quickly...not difficult to fit however they are handed of course but you could fit them to the wrong side as I did but found that the tail finisher just rattled against the rear valance..it needed to go about 1/2 inch inboard..discovered that the tail finishers had been on 180 out so when I changed them over they fitted perfectly! very nicely made and of course the sound? yes quite subtle you would'nt notice much difference inside unless you gas it but lovely burble outside..think the club have got it right
