Part replacement of exhaust to improve sound My Xmas present

Postby eugos » Wed Nov 30, 2011 2:32 pm

I appear to have the same problem as a number of other owners in that I think the exhaust note is too civilised.

Whilst not wishing to go down the boy racer route, I would like to improve the sound under hard acceleration and idling.

I see a number of solutions put forward in the forum that are quite old now and potentially expensive e.g. replacing the entire system.

My thoughts are leaning toward replacing the current system with a rear system + sports over axle pipes from Double 'S' exhausts. for around £300.

Can anybody give me any advice guidance on this course of action?

Thanks in advance,

Eugene

Hi Eugene ,
If I were you , I'd listen to a few different systems on other members cars before taking the plunge , you will probably find a friendly member near you that won't mind letting you have a listen , then if that particular system suits , have it fitted ,
some systems tend to resonate or drone at specific engine RPM , this would normally upset owners who would like something a little more subtle
I have swapped my original system for a late XKR system purely so I could have genuine Jaguar quad tailpipes , it's a little noisier but the next step (for me) is to get some custom over axle straight through pipes that retain the front and rear sections without modification to the original , I believe that will produce a little more Growl without the resonance ,

Hope this helps ,

Nik

Hi Eugene,
If the last XK8 seminar is anything to go by, there's every chance that attendees will bring along their XK8s, many of which are fitted with modified exhaust systems ranging from the modestly burbling to the downright loud and bellowing. The seminar is a good event in its own right and if you decide to attend, you could also use it to hear the results of others' decisions on exhausts and discuss the pro's and con's with fellow owners.
