XK8 updated rad has different positioned oil tube fitting

Postby GaryNorris » Sat Sep 22, 2018 11:08 am

My first trial of the day....
The Engine cooling radiator that I just purchased MJB4190AF has ‘one of the two oil cooling connections’ located different to the original on my XK8 and this means the car’s autobox lower oil pipe will not extend to the new required position for the new rad.

I’ve attached a couple files & images that hopefully shows the issue I have with the new rad.

I realise the part number supplied MJB4190AF is apparently an updated part from the original MJA4190AF, but the car’s lower oil pipe back to the Auto-Gearbox would have to also be updated to make this new radiator fit.
Maybe there's an updated oil pipe to make the new rad fit, or maybe I'll have to source a another radiator with the correct position as shown in my attached diagrams.

As you can see, the new rad has the copper fitting about 6cm away (higher) from the intended position dictated by the alloy oil pipe, that will not move to the upper position. Albeit, the NISSENS new Rad fitting has both a female & male thread, the female thread would actually work if I could just get the alloy pipe to move to that new location, but the pipe just doesn't have the movement in it to stretch to the new position. There's insufficient movement in the alloy pipe.
The image shows the optional copper adapter that comes with the rad already removed. What you see in the image is the permanent threaded copper fitting on the rad, this can't be further removed, with both female & male threads?

I’ve noticed looking on the web that the NISSENS MJA4190AF (not available any longer) has the lower oil pipe connection correctly positioned to match my old rad but the updated NISSENS MJB4190AF (As Purchased) has the lower oil pipe connection positioned about 6cm further away, which makes it completely non-usable.

Any one else come across this or can suggest a fix?
Many thanks for sensible suggestions and fixes.
Regards, Gary.

Hi Gary,
It's annoying when problems like this come about but hopefully we'll get there in the end :D .
I've noticed on the Jaguar Classic Parts site that the lower oil pipe to Vin 018107 is Part No NJA4500CB.
Then from Vin 018108 the Part No is NJB4500AB superseded to NJC4500AA for the rest of the production run.
Here's the link to the page.
https://www.jaguarclassicparts.com/uk/x ... 0-litre-v8
Now to Vin 018107 the first radiator was used and then from Vin 018108 they used the radiator that you have bought.
Here's the link to that page.
https://www.jaguarclassicparts.com/uk/x ... 0-litre-v8
So you would assume the oil pipe Part No NJC4500AA from Vin 018108 would be needed to correct the problem.
Another option would be to have a custom hydraulic hose made up.
Sorry I can't be of more help but keep us updated if you can.
Good luck with it all anyway.
Take Care.
