Wheeler Dealer rear shocker removal.

The Wheeler Dealer XK8 had its rear shockers removed from the car simply by removing the lower bolt, the brake caliper and the fulcrum pin. Ed intimated that he would compress the spring by 10 cms but in fact shortened it much less than this. He then compressed the shock absorber with the ram of a transmission jack to enable him to move the bottom bush sideways .
Has anybody tried this method ? It seems on the face of it to be much simpler than methods that I've read in articles on the subject.
All opinions welcome. With thanks - Tony. ( B8 JXK 1996 BRG Convertible )

I haven't had the benefit of seeing the TV programme so I might have misinterpreted your comments but the method outlined isn't that different from the Jaguar recommended version. The Jaguar method has an extra step which is to instruct fitters to remove the hub pivot bolt which allows manoeuvring of the wishbone arm without the hub assembly. Mike.

Thanks Mike, The main article that I had read on this was in the Jaguar World book, Jaguar XK8, A modern sporting icon. They remove the A frame and snti-roll bar drop links. After I wrote in I noticed your reply to Jonathan in 2009 which was as demonstrated by Ed.
I'll stop bothering people and get on with the job now !
With thanks Tony.

Great! Isn't it a relief to get rid of that damper knock? It's really annoying! Mike.
