Wheel Bearing Replacement Costs

Can anybody advise roughly what an Indy would charge to replace the front wheel bearings on an XK8 2002 model - also can you suggest a good one to use in Kent
Thanks
Ian

The official labour time to remove and replace a front wheel bearing in its hub is just over 2 hours. With labour rates varying from £50 per hour to £150 per hour plus the cost of a bearing (around £50), the total will be £150 per side upwards. Some suppliers will sell new or reconditioned hubs complete with new bearings which make the task easier to do because special tools are not required to strip and rebuild the hubs. Mike.

Mike - thanks for the reply - do you know where reconditioned units can be obtained as this sound like an interesting route for me - I am comfortable with taking the hub off the car.
Thanks
Ian

Hi Ian,

I'm afraid I can't recommend any specific supplier only because I haven't tried any of the reconditioned hubs. However, an internet search of ebay and beyond should at least provide a list of potential sources of both new and reconditioned units. Good luck. Mike.

Try spares-hq on ebay. I`ve just bought an S-type front bearing and hub from them at an excellent price.

premier-factors also on ebay are also good for Jaguar parts as is Neville Anderson at North East Jaguar Spares.

There are loads of suppliers around for many of the parts we need to keep our cars going at affordable prices. Long live the electronic search engine!

Thanks Mike K - I have ordered two reconditioned hubs with new bearings thus making the replacement of the faulty bearings fairly straightforward.
Will tackle this next week along with some new bushes
Cheers
Ian

Chris Forbes at CFS Motors (Tel: 01676 541917 ) can usually help with these.
