Rear sub frame corrosion MOT advisory

Postby dyrham663 » Wed Apr 30, 2025 5:20 pm

Had this on the last MOT.

Garage said MOT stations are noting this if they see any surface rust.

Also said they can scrape off surface rust and repaint if I want. Advised that new rear sub frames not available so if it did rust through I would need to seek a second hand replacement.

Any views?

Thanks

XK subframes rarely rot sufficiently to become MoT failures but they can look unsightly. Try using a rust converter (like Jenolite) and then treat the subframes and other steel underside components to a dose of Lanoguard/Wayoyl or similar and repeat every year or two. That should hold the problem in check for a while and it will look a lot better. Mike.
