Suspension Failure

I'm about to leave for the Netherlands this afternoon and would you believe it, I had an error message come up on the dashboard - Suspension Failure

I put my diagnostic on the car and (CATS) code C1516 - 5V short to battery came up. I turned off the engine and restarted the car and the indication of Suspension Failure disappeared, although C1516 is still showing on the diagnostic unit. Have anyone any knowledge of what this appertains to?

This code refers to the suspension roll rate sensor. The sensor is part of the CATS system and also feeds information to the ABS braking module. Unless your code reader has the ability to clear codes, the code is likely to remain stored in the car. Mike.

Normally, my code reader clears codes, but it doesn’t clear this code. What does this mean? Is there an issue?

Code readers vary so much in their abilities, it's difficult to advise whether it's just the code reader unable to clear it. Unless the reader is highly sophisticated, it's also unlikely to be able to analyse the fault in as much detail as either Jaguar diagnostics or the Autologic systems. If there's a suspension issue, it needs correcting, starting with a detailed diagnosis. The problem may or may not be a simple one, like corroded terminal pins but it does need correcting. Mike.

Spoke to Jaguar franchised dealer who indicated, “ We have checked th fault code in Topix but nothing shows up under this code. Obviously it must be suspension related but not too sure. If it has cleared then I'd say it is not a permanent fault or could have just had a moment.”
Code hasn’t returned…………….YET!

Don't worry. Jaguar has yet to introduce self-curing models. It'll be back to plague you. Mike.

And maybe find another Dealer! There's at least a few references on the internet of XK owners experiencing that code and fault message on a CATS car.

Just got back from Stoke on Trent (200miles), parked up on my drive, turned off engine. Went in doors, came out minutes later and turned on ignition. ‘Suspension Failure Fault’ and yellow dash light came on again. Turned off engine, left it a few minutes and turned on ignition, yellow light didn’t come on and no ‘Suspension Fault’ message. There is obviously a problem, but where do I start to look?
