front suspension noise

Postby ollywest » Tue Aug 07, 2012 9:15 pm

Hi there, have been following the discussions on XK8 front suspension, i have a 2005 convertible with 60k miles that has a front suspension knock when travelling slowly over anything that would make the suspension travel further than normal (road humps, small kerbs etc.) Is it possible I could have a problem with top wishbone joints, the car doesn't seem to experience any tramlining or directional problems.

Cheers
Ian

Hi Ian ,
I'd put my money on bottom damper bushes ( actually more of a bearing ) you can check them for play yourself , pretty much any movement in them means they are worn , check out all the rest of the bushes and joints at the same time though and don't forget the ARB links
I think your car it too new to be suffering from wear in the lower steering column , later cars like yours had a revised lower column sliding joint :D

Hope this helps ,

In the absence of any tramlining or tyre wear, I'd put my money on Nik's suggestion but without testing them, don't rule out other bushes beginning with the anti roll bar rubbers and links. Mike.

Thanks for the replies, will put the car on a ramp and check damper and ARB bushes, hopefully it will be an easy fix! :D
