Only had my XK8 two days but it came with Maxxis tyres on, nearly new.
Anybody had these on and what do you think?

Have a set on a 350 XJR atm, tbh they seen to be ok, no complaints at all
Re: Maxxis tyres
Great, thanks for that, they seem to grip well but on the other hand I 've only done a couple hundred miles since I picked it up on Monday night

Re: Maxxis tyres
What constitutes a good tyre against being a bad one is often very subjective across a large tyre range, a particular vehicle, its longevity, quietness, wet and dry grip and ones personal liking or not for that particular tyre type on your vehicle.
As a very basic generalisation, cheaper tyres can sometimes misbehave slightly more than the mid range or premium brands. in particular i`ve noted cheaper budget brands wear quicker that upper brands, can be a little noiseyor be a little more unreliable in the wet.
i have an axle set of Avons on the back of my V8 S-type and they have been there for three years. I expect another couple of years out of them. Price was about £160 when fitted. had I fitted cheaper Nexen tyres, I would expect them to be worn out in about two years. The Avons have exceeded my expectations and i would certainly fit them again. I fit Nexens when I am skint! They are about £50 each cheaper than an Avon. Wear wise the Avons are vastly better than the Nexens and wet grip at the rear is more predictable. Yer pays yer money etc..
Lets face it, most modern tyres are graded and certificated to the hilt. It is quite easy nowadays to find the spec of a tyre you are running, see reviews on that type of tyre and see how they are rated in tests run by trusted organisations. Take a look at this link and see if your tyres are listed. Also Google Maxxis and see what others have said about these tyres. I believe they are Chinese made which shouldn`t be a cause for concern.

Maxxis seem to come out quite well across a number of different reviewers and I suggest that there really are not that many bad tyres on the market. Most will do as described on the sticky label stuck to the tread by law on all new tyres supplied by fitting outlets. It is possible to see what grip levels they have, degree of quietness and performance under braking.
After that it is personal choice. If the tyres grip and stop well enough, don`t cause any nasty moments when pushed along or are not breaking up in front of you, then I would drive and enjoy the car and replace tyres later with another brand which may be more to your own taste or preference.

Re: Maxxis tyres
Thanks for the info
I am sort of paranoid (about a lot of things actually, mostly the government!) about "cheap tyres" and tend to stick with the big boys tyres !
My Honda S2000 has Bridgestone Potenzas on and they stick like s**t to a blanket so seeing getting this XK8 with marginally more HP than the Honda but with more weight to cart around I got a bit....errr... paranoid, hmmm that's where we started !
Anyway, we will see how we go and drive within the limitations of the tyres until I understand the nature of the beast
