Replacing the Steering Rack 2001 MY XKR

Hi All,

I recently had an altercation with some oil on the road and ended up in a field. Luckily, as I thought, not much hurt but my pride. Unfortunately it appears that my Pride & Joy has been damaged by the experience.

I have PS fluid seeping from both steering rack gaitors. As the car tends to stand for a week at a time almost all of the fluid has drained out on to my drive.

Can anyone give me any pointers as to the best approach here? I'm assuming that the seals are gone. Should I replace the rack or can it be reconditioned?

Eurojag have quoted me around £120 for a used replacement, I do all servicing and maintenance, but have not tackled a steering rack before... How complex a job is it?

Thanks in Advance,
Paul.

If it is the same as my 2002 xk8 it is one of the easiest jobs you will ever do on the car - four bolts that hold it on easy to see and get at -power steering pipes again not to difficult and track rod ends -mine as I guess yours will just drops out the bottom
Should give you no problems
Cheers
Ian :D
