The Wheel Specialist

My N/S/F tyre was losing pressure at an alarming rate. Having had it checked out and found the wheel was corroded made an appointment to go to Wheel Specialists at Garforth (Leeds). Went over late Wednesday afternoon, they inspected the wheels visually and said they were after market wheels, all the same size and not split rims. The best they could do would be to remove the wheel and tyre, grind out the corrosion and repaint and seal the beading. They couldn't do a full refurb as the wheel had a chrome finished rim which is pressed on and can't be removed cleanly without damage.
Left the wheel, went home on the skinny spare, got phone call Friday morning - wheel ready. Went to collect everything looks good, they don't know how long this type of repair will hold, maybe months maybe years.
Very impressed with their set up, friendly, professional and know what they're talking about.
Will use them again if I decide to change my wheels to jag spec, larger rears rather than same size all-round. Currently 245x35x20 but cosmetically look ok.

Here is my recent thread about a cracked alloy rim and the repair done. Rims can and do crack and corrode and can be repaired successfully, so I hope this gives you some encouragement. I had a few bead seal problems when I first acquired these rims, but a good clean up and repaint of the bead seal areas was all that was needed.

No problems since apart from the impact crack which precipitated after my battle bus disappeared into one of Birmingham Highways deepest potholes just outside the Jaguar plant!

Cheers for that, it is encouraging!!
I assume Jaguar put larger rear wheels on the XKR for a reason but mine appear to be the same size all-round, any particular detriment with this - especially from a safety aspect??

I'm glad The wheel Specialist was able to help. I've always found them very positive and practical.

Jaguar fitted different sized rims front and back to optimise the XKR's handling balance close to and at the limit of adhesion. Providing you don't drive on public roads as if you are on a track day, there isn't a real safety issue. That said, beware the possibility that your insurance company could treat the non Jaguar wheels as a 'modification' which could invalidate your cover. Mike.

Thanks Mike I don't drive like a maniac (often) so that is reassuring from a safety point of view.
Good point about the insurance though, will ring them on Monday and fill them in on the details.

Many Thanks
