Front Brakes

Does anyone have any experience changing the front rotors & pads (1998 XK8 4.0) I have bought a set of ECB's as replacements and I'm considering doing them myself. I have experience on other vehicle types but first time on the XK8 - any pitfalls I should be aware of?
Thanks in advance for any advice. :) :)

I think you have to remove the ABS nut to get to the rotors/discs and this requires specialist equipment.

I upgraded to EBC dimpled/grooved discs and greenstuff pads all around 2 years ago and noticed an immediate (circa 20%) braking improvement. As I hardly use my brakes the pads still have in excess of 75% left on them after 22k miles :) As I paid a specialist to replace all of my wheel bearings back in 05 they fitted the new discs/pads/shields at no extra cost...as they had to take em all off anyway...result!

Strangely I've learnt that EBC don't recommend Green pads for cars over 200BHP...so it's weird that they should sell a set to fit

I'm currently trying to source a set of SS brake lines for my stock calipers and have been advised that the goodrich ones will fit...we shall see.

Regards

Mark

Welcome to the bulletin board, Steve :)
Sorry I can't advise on your particular question but hope someone will do so shortly.

:) Thankyou for the help. I have gone for the new style ECB's (slotted and anodised) with red pads. Green pads have been excellent on previous cars. The "new" red pads are supposed to have v.good cold response wich was always the reason for recommending "green" for road use. We will see. I too was looking for S.S. hoses to fit them together as a package, would be interested to know what you end up with. Thanks again. Steve

If you haven't yet got round to fitting the new discs, you needn't worry about the rotor nuts unless you're replacing more than just the discs and pads. It's a straightforward job. Just remember that it's advisable to use new caliper bolts as well. Mike.
