Tyres on my XKR 4.2S Convertible down to 3 - 4 mm.

About 16,000 miles (What have others managed)

I noticed that Kwik fit will do both the rears 285 30 20 for £450 fitted until 30th Sept.

Best deal by £50 I saw, some quote almost £300 each

Like the price of fuel, tyre prices seem to vary from week to week. It certainly pays to shop around. Last year I was fortunate enough to buy a pair of new 20" rear Pirellis for £200 plus fitting.
With no connections other than a few good purchases (not the £200 pair), I'd always recommend checking with Blackcircles.com. Sometimes their prices seem unbeatable. At other times, they have been plain average. I'd guess it all depends on the most recent manufacturer deals they have been able to do. Mike.

I didn't know that petrol fluctuated that much? Cheapest (excluding 5p off for £50 spend at supermarkets). Typically 91.9ppl at superstores and an average of £1.02ppl at motorway services.

Either way the most you could save on a fill-up would be around £7.50 from empty so not the best comparison to use as the % variance is small.

Consider the price of LPG (which my car runs on) 33ppl at several outlets in the West Midlands but as much as 55ppl in some places near me in somerset...so a 40% variance(or £11 on 58l! I'm not complaining as I can still do 250+ miles on a £23 fill-up at 40ppl which works out to close to 60 MPG in a direct price/volume comparison

Back to tires...I've always checked with blackcircle and couple of others however when Kwikfit do their 25% offers on 4 tyres it's rare they can be beaten.

Rears on my 2000 XKR lasted about 13-14000miles, so you seem to be in the same ball-park.

Fronts still fine at 16000.

Car is lowered and "stiffened" on 20 inch wheels.

My pirelli's (although 18") lasted just 12k before a change was due. the new Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's have been on for 20,000 and all have 5mm or over all around.

I'd strongly suggest looking at other tyre alternatives as 20" rubber isn't cheap and poor longevity at that price is a false economy.

I know the eagles weren't available at 20" last time I looked but some of the Conti's were and they are rated almost as highly.

I must admit I burned off a bit of rubber seeing what would happen with the traction control off and high revs, amazing the smoke that can be generated. The XKR can loon if necessary.

Many seem to hold the view that we should stick to P Zero's as they are the jaguar recommended tyre and are extra load.

New XKR has Dunlops, I believe.

I believe I could have got 20k out of them without the tyre smoking

Previous to this I had heard of 8 -10k from previous owners with XK8's

Balance, tracking and alignment are esential.

I've had my 20" Pirelli's on for about 18,000 miles and still have 4.5mm left all round. Maybe because I'm a bit cautious that they seem to be lasting quite well.
