Discs & Brakes

Postby DougX » Sun Apr 07, 2019 11:34 am

Hi all, need to change my discs and pads on the front of my 2005 XK8. Currently running with Brembo discs and brakes but now looking at EBC products. Sourced EBC Performance Slotted Brake Discs for £231 but not sure whether to source Green Stuff brake pads or Yellow. Any suggestions and where will I get them from at a good price?

EBC stockists normally do a package of the discs and pads together that work out cheaper than buying from seperate sources. Why aren't you doing the rears too?

Rears not needed. Front discs must be warped as when braking the steering shudders.

Had this on my last XJ8. The calipers are very effective but was told that pad dust build up could affect the angle that pads get applied to the disk. Dust particularly builds up over long periods of use with light braking. Took advise first to drive with the brakes very lightly applied (so that you can hardly notice them) for a few miles, and see whether that either slightly adjusts the pad to disk angle and or clears any dust build up. I also used an air line on the calipers. It cleared but I knew they'd done 40k miles so were due for a change by the next year (did less than 6k a year in it -- mostly by 'er indoors so light use anyways)

With Brembo discs (airaited) and calipers you've got even more braking power there so presumably more chance for the above to occur?

Let us know if changing both discs and pads fixes? Worth perhaps a check to see whether there's any water in the brake fluid? When was that last flushed through? Should be every 60k according to early published service schedules

Good luck :!:
