Pirelli tyres front and back

Postby XKR.Bruce » Wed Jan 02, 2019 12:03 pm

Hi, I am new to the forum and jaguar ownership. I have an XKR 2004. It has Pirelli P-zeros all round, but front tyres are cracked and need replacing (lack of use). Back ones are much newer, no problems and a lot of tread left. Although I read there are better tyre options I was advised to keep same tyres all round due to way they work together. Also thinking replacing front 2 for now is much cheaper and I can consider a new tyre all round once all worn in the future. I can get Pirelli's for £152 each fitted at 'Tyre City'.. plus JEC Pirelli deal gives fuel voucher cashback of £50. Question: Should I just go Pirelli again or take the opportunity to change front tyre for a better performer?

Hi, For what it's worth I replaced Pirelli P- Zeroes on my XK8 for Goodyear rubber. Why? Much quieter ride!

As needed am replacing Pirelli P-Zeroes on my XF with Hankkook for the same reason.

If you are determined to drive to the maximum performance then go for the best performance rubber you can get. If you like to enjoy a quieter ride you may want to consider replacing the Pirellis.

My personal view. Not a technical recommendation.

New tyres on any car seem to make it feel better.

One of the problems deciding which brand or tyre to go with is that just as wet grip diminishes with a lack of tread depth, other aspects, like noise generation, also change with wear.

Most of us don't get many opportunities to test new brand X tyres back to back with new tyres of brand Y. So, most of our personal comparisons are based on the incomplete experience of old tyres of one brand versus new tyres of another. Hence, the information on tyre labels about fuel efficiency, wet grip and noise emission is probably a good place to start any search for the benefits of any replacement tyres. Needless to say, the tyres all have to be of the same size, load and speed ratings. If all else is equal to what the car needs and you want from a tyre, price is the final arbiter. Mike.

Bruce, if you are running 20" wheels I've just put a set of P-zero's in the classifieds.
