Hi...got my 2001 XK8 back from a few weeks having body/ paint repairs.....now showing gearbox fault on dash, and in “ limp” mode
Was fine when it went in....battery fine ....
Any thoughts please?

Get the faults cleared. Then see what comes back.
Could be due to the shop having disconnected battery, then re-connected again after their work.
An iCarsoft 930 (about £90 inc new) is a useful tool and saves the £30 fee most indies charge for that.
Forget main agent.
Another way is to disconnect both battery leads, use cable tie to connect both leads' terminals together, leave for 20 mins or so, then re-connect. Often referred to as a "hard-reset". But my experience is that doesn't clear all faults
