Tyre pressures

Postby PROFTHOMAS » Tue Oct 16, 2007 8:16 pm

Can someone help a rather confused XK8 owner? I wonder if anybody out there can tell me what my tyre pressures are meant to be?
I have a 2001 XK8 coupe which has Impeller 18 inch alloys. It has Continental tyres, 255/45 rear and 245/45 front. I've just had one of the rear tyres replaced because it was damaged, and was told by the tyre outlet I used that all four tyres should be at 38psi. This seems rather high to me, and is certainly at odds with the info on the underside of the armrest. Any thoughts?

Go with the info on the underside of the armrest  I think the tyre dealer is just trying to sell more tyres

The settings are really down to personal preference/comfort but shouldn't be loweer than the lowest setting or higher than the highest.

Never heard of anyone running at 38 psi as that would be one hard ride! :(

Conti's are good tyres (esp the new contact sport) certainly better than the old pirelli's which they outperform in every independant tyre test.

Thanks for the thoughts folks, I'll go with the figures on the armrest and see how it feels.

I have changed to Toyo T1-Rs 245/45-18 26PSI front and 285/40-18 28PSI rear.

Last longer that Pirelli, cheaper and I feel a better grip without the sudden breakaway.

And I drive it hard!!
